What is Moonbirds and why do people pay 90 ETH for PROOF Collective?

Moonbirds

Release Date: April 16th, 2022Raffle Ends: April 10th at 9:00 am PT🚨 Amount: 10,000Mint Price: 2.5 ETH ($8,000)

Moonbirds is an upcoming PFP collection by PROOF. There will be 10,000 utility-enabled birds, and each unlocks private club membership and additional benefits. PROOF introduced a new way of staking called nesting, which will reward long-term holders. Nesting will reflect Moonbird’s traits so that a year-nested bird will have rarer traits than a newly purchased one. So diamond hands are rewarded🥳

The pixelated art🦉 is arguably good-looking, and there will be a bunch of unique traits for each owl. The main reason collectors are excited about is getting access to the PROOF ecosystem - a membership club that is currently unreachable to most for its floor price of 90 ETH ($288,000).

What is PROOF and who created it?

PROOF Collective is a membership club launched by Kevin Rose and Justin Mezzell. Kevin is a serial entrepreneur, creator of PROOF Podcast, and partner at True Ventures. He started several successful startups, and he’s that guy who told Gary Vee to buy CryptoPunks in 2020. Justin is a designer and illustrator who made art for the NFT project Grim Syndicate on Solana. The third member of PROOF is Ryan Carson, experienced entrepreneur and founder of Treehouse. The team is highly professional and brings their web2 experiences and successes into web3.

PROOF Collective was launched on December 11th, 2021 and in 4 months moved from 1 ETH mint to 90 ETH floor. The collection has 1,000 NFTs with a nice distribution of 927 unique holders.

From the utility perspective, members value two things. First, is PROOF's Discord, where members meet, learn, and discuss alpha from the NFT world. Some of them created DAO, and they hang out together. Second, Grails collection that had allowed members to mint unique pieces of art by Larva Labs, Tyler Hobbs (Fidenza), Gary Vee, and others. Each holder minted one Grail, and the one by LL called Protoglyph sold for 80 ETH a month ago.

What is the roadmap?

Besides Discord and Grails, PROOF has big plans and will use the funding from the upcoming Moonbirds drop to launch new products. Early in March, they introduced a new roadmap to PROOF Collective members in a keynote-style presentation. They divided the products into three categories:

  1. Fostering community

    1. Discord

    2. Allowlist spots and giveaways for popular NFT collections

    3. Proof of Conference - IRL conference starting 2023

    4. Proof of Meetups - IRL meetups for holders

  2. Providing knowledge

    1. Proof Academy - NFT, web3 online education

    2. Deep Dives - once a week deep dive into new NFT projects

    3. Weekly Highlights - a weekly summary of what happened in the NFT space

    4. Proof Podcast - early access to new episodes

  3. Building product

    1. Grails - Grails 2 coming soon

    2. Artist Collaborations

    3. Project Highrise - PROOF's novel take on the metaverse

So the idea is a PROOF Collective member gets all necessary NFT knowledge, including daily/weekly updates within the PROOF ecosystem, and won’t need to go anywhere else. They will also get access to a new unique art through collaborations with artists and Grails 2 collection.

What about the Moonbirds owners, though?🤔

During the presentation, the team explained the need to have a PFP project to represent members not only internally but also externally. Indeed, you are not going to put a membership card as a profile picture because… you can see below😊

Kevin reassured the Collective holders that everything they currently see in Discord would remain for the Collective holders only. So, the Moonbirds will have new channels within the Discord. PROOF Collectors will be able to access the Moonbirds channels, not vice versa. At the conference, the Collective members will have VIP access, and shortly after launch, PROOF will introduce different backgrounds of Moonbirds for Collective members. So the Collective memberships will remain premium.

With airdrops, PROOF Collective members will have different airdrops than Moonbirds holders. However, it might still be fun and valuable for the Moonbird holders. Kevin was playing some ideas, including a special airdrop on a full moon🦉 for staking your bird or even a SpaceX flight for holding an Elon Musk-looking bird. The Moonbirds will be a product playground where the team can experiment with new ideas and utilities.

Moonbirds will also get access to the future PROOF-built metaverse called 'Project Highrise.' The team says it will be a dramatic departure from the existing 'never-ending' worlds that feel like a digital ghost town. PROOF wants to do it differently, and Kevin hinted it is happening already this year.

How to mint Moonbirds?

There will be 7,875 Moonbirds accessible only by Allowslist Raffle. No public sale, no dutch auction. The raffle ends on Sunday, April 10th, at 9 am PT🚨, and everyone can join. The mint price is 2.5 ETH, which is also the requirement for entering the raffle. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 15th, at 9 am PT.

Additional 2,000 birds are reserved for the PROOF Collective members (so 2 per each) and the rest for the treasury. Each Moonbird will be revealed immediately after the mint.
