The Otherside by Yuga Labs Drops in April

Long awaiting NFT drop by Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Apes, is coming in April. And we already know how it works with Yuga. When they announce something, it goes fast.

I wrote this overview to summarise what we already know about the drop. Please note there is nothing much officially confirmed by Yuga, so the information might change in the upcoming days.

What is the Otherside?

The Otherside is an upcoming Metaverse by Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club. A land for Apes, Mutants, and Kennels but also NFT projects such as CryptoPunks, Meebits, World of Women, Cool Cats, and others. It is a world powered by ApeCoin, where people play, build, and own their virtual land.

What do we know so far?

Most of the information I am writing about is still rumors because Yuga hasn’t officially disclosed anything besides a 90-second teaser featuring the Otherside and a confirmation it is happening in April. If you haven’t seen it, you can do it right below.

Around the same time when the teaser dropped, the NFT Twitter got access to a leaked investors pitch deck created in late 2021. The video and the pitch deck give us a general picture of what to expect.

What is the vision?

Yuga sees the Otherside to be something truly decentralized and interoperable. A metaverse that makes all other metaverses obsolete.

In other words, the Metaverse Yuga plans to build include games, a marketplace, all powered by ApeCoin. It will be interoperable, so everyone will be able to bring their avatars from other NFT collections. Artists will be welcomed to create in-game skins and clothing. The land will be a crucial part of the decentralized ownership.

How to mint?

The Otherside will have 200,000 land plots, which will be released in two batches. Initial 100,000 genesis plots will be released this April. 30% of the land goes to BAYC/MAYC holders, leaving 70,000 NFTs for public sale. The expected price is 1 ETH, most probably in ApeCoin. The remaining 100,000 plots will be released in August 2022.

The launch will be in collaboration with Animoca. Earlier this month, Yuga asked everyone to do the Animoca KYC verification. Yuga tweeted they don’t like KYC, but they think we might want to do it. There are rumors people with approved KYC will get presale access, but we shall see.

We don’t know yet whether it will be an instant reveal. However, each plot will be different and can contain natural resources, rare artifacts, and even a Koda.

Koda is a new character that will be a part of the Otherside. There will be 10,000 unique Kodas randomly distributed amongst the lands. Yuga wants to make this massive, live, multiplayer experience.

So that’s all we know! The exact date in April is also unknown, but BAYC has its first anniversary on April 23rd. Wouldn’t it be an awesome way to celebrate?🥳
